Club Atonal is a weekly meeting of like-minded musicians who are dedicated to exploring the bondaries of what’s possible in Contemporay Jazz – from strictly controlled Modal Music to Free Improvisation.

Often they don’t know really going to happen untill they start playing.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but it’s always an exciting journey and one that we hope you can enjoy watching.

Anyone can come and joins us whatever their skill level. All we ask is that everyone concentrates on the space between the notes as much as the notes themselves.

Our Mission is to takes the elitism out of Jazz and make it an inclusive activity for all.

Musicians

“The JamodaZZal Research Project”

Kevo (on Drums, Anologue Synthesisers, Keyboards, Bass Guitar and occasional spontaneus Vocals) and Don TakGuy (on Electric Bartitone Ukulele, Detuned Guitars and Analogue Synthesizers) are our resident house band.

At one end of the Spectrum they are pushing themselves into the exciting territory of free improvisation – and sometimes even going beyond it to enter the far corners of the zone where only pure noise exists.

At the other end of the Spectum they are investigating how Jazz can be striped down to a bare minimum of note. In tunes such as “Notes Two” and “Notes Five“ they provide an opportuniy for anyone with a basic understnding of their chosen instument to take part in our sessions.

Geoffrey Mark Mthhews is a full-time artist, writer, and independent researcher who has actively engaged with free-improvised music since his graduation from art school in 1977.
